Central Florida
providing statewide literacy professional development. Now she’s a consultant, writing and speaking about adolescent literacy issues. She has received intellectual freedom awards from the American Library Association and the National Council of Teachers of English, and was the recipient of the PEN/Newman’s Own First Amendment Award in 1999. She is the author or coauthor of three other Heinemann titles, Engaging Adolescent Learners (2006), Silent No More (2003), and At the Schoolhouse Gate (2002).
