Delivered On-Site by Heinemann-Trained Consultants
Maximize your teachers' efficient administration and effective use of the
Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System.
Designed by authors Irene C. Fountas and Gay Su Pinnell, Benchmark Professional Support is delivered on-site to schools and districts by author-selected and author-trained consultants.
Available for both Benchmark Assessment System 1 (Grades K-2) and Benchmark Assessment System 2 (Grades 3-8), this on-site support introduces participants to the thinking behind Benchmark Assessment System, provides training on how to administer and analyze the assessment, and helps participants understand instructional and grouping implications. Through hands-on experiences and professional conversations, teachers learn how to:
- administer, code and score a reading behavior assessment
- determine independent, instructional and placement levels for readers using the Fountas and Pinnell A-Z text gradient
- analyze a child's reading performance—including reading comprehension, reading rate and word analysis—to assess the reader's current processing system
- assess reading fluency using a six dimension rubric
- discuss the instructional implications for both whole group and differentiated, small-group instruction.
