Where can I find a calendar of scheduled firsthand Professional Support days and how do I register for one?
Firsthand Professional Support is scheduled by school, district, or regional educational services center personnel for site-specific delivery, to small groups of teachers employed by that particular school or district. Individual teachers seeking regional, open-enrollment workshops are encouraged to examine the Heinemann Workshops and Multi-Day Institutes schedules available on this web site.
What authors provide firsthand Professional Support?
Each firsthand Professional Support course is developed in collaboration with Heinemann authors to maximize the effective use of the author's (or authors') firsthand curriculum resource materials. The courses are delivered by Heinemann consultants that have been approved by the author.
What is the difference between Heinemann Seminars and firsthand Professional Support?
Firsthand Professional Support is designed to assist teachers in the implementation and use of firsthand professional materials that have been purchased by the school or district. Heinemann Seminars provide on-site professional development for small groups of educators based Heinemann professional books.
Are the firsthand materials included in the cost of the session?
Firsthand materials are not included in the cost of the Professional Support. Purchase of the firsthand materials is required for all participants. Firsthand materials can be purchased from your local distributor, sales representative or though Heinemann.
What is the cost?
Firsthand Professional Support is priced to meet your small- or large-group needs and can accommodate as many as 100 teachers in a single group. The price for up to 50 participants is $3600. The price for 51–100 participants is $4250. Prices include professional support only, which includes the hand-outs, consultant fees and consultant expenses. Purchase of the firsthand materials is required for all participants. Firsthand materials can be purchased from your local Heinemann sales representative or though Heinemann. The school or district is responsible for providing the seminar venue and any catering desired.
Is there a limit to the number of teachers that can participate?

Who are the Heinemann consultants that deliver School-Based Seminars?
Heinemann consultants are a select group of former and current educators. Each possesses a strong background in teaching and has excellent presentation skills. Heinemann has a high obligation to ensure the consultants who deliver firsthand Professional Support have our author's confidence. Each consultant has been either identified by a Heinemann author, or has been chosen in collaboration with the author (or authors) he or she will be representing.
What will firsthand Professional Support help my teachers do?
Firsthand Professional Support deepens teachers' understanding of the instructional ideas and theories behind the firsthand Professional Materials. Developed in collaboration with firsthand authors, the courses are designed to maximize the effective use of the materials as well as give them the professional insight needed to engage in professional decision making that takes them beyond the resource's framework. firsthand Professional Support sessions
- familiarize participants with the instructional ideas, theories, and strategies that shape firsthand materials
- demonstrate how each lesson in the resource modes the moves and language of a master teacher
- highlight ways to use, adapt, and extend the ideas behind the lessons to inform practice and meet the needs of individual classrooms
How long are firsthand Professional Support sessions?
Firsthand Professional Support sessions are day-long engagements. Some flexibility is available in terms of the length of the sessions, which can be compressed or expanded to suit a school's or district's particular time resource issues and professional learning objectives.
Is firsthand Professional Support available on Saturdays?
Firsthand Professional Support is available any day of the week, including Saturdays.
What kind of follow-up support is available?
Heinemann firsthand Professional Support also provides follow-up support days to schools and districts that desire further staff development support. Support days may include additional guided study, planning sessions, in-class demonstrations, co-teaching, and/or classroom observation and feedback.
