mind used by much more experienced writers, and how teachers can support them
as they develop these habits of mind.
-
Learning to plan and organize mini lessons into units of study that fill the
workshop with rich possibilities for young writers and their work.
-
Learning to use both writing conferences and assessment to support and extend
children’s writing
School Year Two
Professional Learning Focus Year Two: Developing Curriculum for Writing
Workshop
-
Learning to develop curriculum about the complex process
of writing by studying personal writing experiences and what professional
writers tell us about the process of writing.
-
Learning to develop curriculum about the craft
of writing by reading like a teacher of writing, and using the work of a few
good professional writers who can show students how to write well.
-
Learning to write clear, articulate curriculum statements for both the process
of writing and the craft of writing. Understanding how this clarity and
articulation improves teaching.
-
Understanding how whole class lessons can help students envision using the
content of the mini lesson to raise the level of their writing work.
Note: Teachers to be divided into two grade-level clusters—including one cluster
for Grades K-2 and another for Grades 3-5.
