| Speaker Bio
Sara Holbrook is a frequent keynote speaker at state, national and international conferences, in addition to professional development workshops and her extensive work with students all across the country and abroad. Her combined experience as a corporate communications professional, educator, and poet enables her to show practical, real-world benefits for the precise and concise language of poetry.
Ms. Holbrook is the author of two professional books on writing and public speaking skills: Practical Poetry: A Non-Standard Approach to Meeting Content Standards (Heinemann 2005), which is comprised of cross-curricular writing lessons using poetry as a vehicle for learning in all content areas and her newest book, Outspoken: How to Improve Writing and Speaking Skills Through Poetry Performanc (co-author Michael Salinger, Heinemann 2006) which combines writing and public speaking exercises to improve communication skills. She is also the author of eight poetry books for children of various ages, including The Dog Ate My Homework, I Never Said I Wasn’t Difficult, Wham! It’s a Poetry Jam and By Definition: Poems of Feeling (Boyds Mills Press). She is also the author of two poetry books for adults, Chicks Up Front (Cleveland State University Press) and Isn’t She Ladylike (Collinwood Media).
Ms. Holbrook’s work is frequently anthologized, she has been a NPR commentator on educational topics and she is recognized as one of the country’s leading performance poets. Her greatest joy is helping students speak with precision and confidence.
